THRIPS
inter quatuor vermium genera, quae lignum infestant, memoratut Plinio, l. 16. c. 41. Culicibus vero similes, thripas: ex Graeco θρίψ. A quo erosa ligna priscos Lacones pro sigillis habuisse, Hercule inventore, refert apud Hesychium Philostephanus in Θριπόβρωτος. Inde θριπόβρωτος σφραγὶς, Lycophroni, v. 508. Quô alludens in Luciano Lexiphanes olivas suas se servare ait, ὑπὸ σφραγῖϚι θριπηδεςάτοις, sub sigillis a thripe quam maxime erosis. Id enim est θειπηδεςός Hesych. Vide Bochart. Hieroz.
